Saying Hi to Morocco!

Our journey begins in Marrakech, the bustling heart of Morocco. The first thing we do today is visit the La Mamounia Gardens, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here, we’ll wander through lush greenery, past reflecting pools and fragrant flowerbeds.

Next, we head to the Marrakech Photography Museum, which houses a fascinating collection of photographs chronicling the city’s history and culture. We’ll learn about the evolution of Marrakech, from its ancient origins to its modern incarnation as a popular tourist destination.

In the evening, we will get the chance to explore the Djemaa El Fna Square, the vibrant main square of Marrakech. Here, here we can find snake charmers, acrobats, fortune tellers, and food vendors. We’ll soak up the atmosphere and spend the night in Marrakech.

Morocco's Historical Monuments

Desert tours from Marrakech don’t get any better than this! Our second day of our one week in Morocco itinerary won’t be boring. Our first stop is the Majorelle Gardens, a stunning oasis created by French artist Jacques Majorelle. We’ll get to marvel at the vibrant colors, the exotic plants, and the peaceful atmosphere.

Next stop- Koutoubia Mosque, the largest mosque in Marrakech. We’ll get to admire its towering minaret and intricate architecture. We’ll also explore the mosque’s gardens, a peaceful spot in the heart of the city.

Our tour continues to the Jewish Mellah, the former Jewish quarter of Marrakech. We’ll learn about the history of the Jewish community in Morocco and visit some of the synagogues and other historical sites.

In the afternoon, we’ll get a chance to shop in the Old Spice Market- expect a sensory overload of colorful spices, herbs, and other exotic goods.

Our next stop is El Bahia Palace, a beautiful example of 19th-century Moroccan architecture. We’ll wander through the courtyards, gardens, and rooms, and learn about the palace’s history.

Our final sight for the day is the Saadian Tombs, a mausoleum of the Saadian dynasty. It’s hard not to be impressed by the intricate tilework and the peaceful atmosphere. Day two of our 1 week in Morocco is behind us, 6 more to go!

Marrakech to Merzouga

On day three of our private Morocco tour package, we leave Marrakech behind and head south towards the Sahara Desert. Our journey takes us through the Tizi n’Tichka pass, the highest road pass in North Africa. We’ll get to enjoy the stunning views of the Atlas Mountains before stopping at an argan cooperative to learn about the production of argan oil, a local specialty.

We’ll continue to Skoura, a small town known for its traditional mudbrick kasbahs. We will also visit the Ait Benhaddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that has been used as a backdrop for many Hollywood films.

Morocco's Beautiful Valleys

On day four of our Morocco private tour, we get to explore the Skoura area, also known as the “Valley of One Thousand Kasbahs”. We’ll visit the Amerhidil 17th Century Kasbah, one of the best-preserved kasbahs in the region. We will also visit the Valley of Roses, where fields of roses are in bloom during the spring.

In the afternoon, we continue to the Dades Valley, a dramatic landscape of canyons. We’ll hike through the Todra Gorges, one of the most impressive valleys in Morocco. We will also visit the Dades Gorges, known for their towering cliffs and unique rock formations.

We will spend the night in Skoura.

Journey to the Sahara Desert

On day five of our private tour of Morocco, we leave the Dades Valley behind and continue our journey towards the Sahara Desert. We stop at the Todra Gorge, a popular spot for rock climbing and hiking.

Reaching Erfoud, a dusty yet exciting town known for its fossil finds, we might opt to delve into prehistoric marvels at a fossil museum before continuing towards Rissani, a historic trading hub and gateway to the desert. Here, we might stumble upon an authentic spice market, vibrant with local color and tantalizing aromas.

As the sun dips towards the horizon, casting long shadows across the landscape, we finally arrive at Merzouga, the gateway to the Sahara Desert. With the golden dunes beckoning, we get the chance to hop on the back of trusty camels and take a ride. We’ll also get a chance to visit the Mausoleum of Moulay Ali Sharif.

Reaching our desert camp nestled amidst the dunes, we end day five immersed in the magic of the Sahara Desert, with sand between our toes and memories etched in our hearts.

The Hollywood of Morocco

A week in Morocco sounded like so much time and we’re already on day 6! Today we begin our journey towards Ouarzazate, the “Hollywood of Morocco.”

Our route takes us through diverse landscapes, from the stark beauty of the desert to the verdant oases that offer pockets of life. We’ll choose to stop at Ait Ouzzine, a charming village where we can meet a Berber family, sip traditional tea, and learn about their way of life. Continuing through the village, we might even participate in a cooking class, immersing ourselves in the local cuisine.

For a cinematic experience, we’ll take the old caravan road back to Ouarzazate, traversing the same path used by traders for centuries. This route promises dramatic scenery and a glimpse into the history of the region.

Reaching Ouarzazate in the afternoon, we check into our hotel, ready to explore this fascinating city.

Atlas Film Studios

After a leisurely breakfast, we start our city tour of Ouarzazate, delving deeper into its rich history and vibrant culture. We start with a visit to the Oasis of Fint, a Moroccan gem offering peace amidst the arid landscape. Here, we can wander through palm groves, and admire the traditional mud brick architecture, as well as natural pools.

Our next stop is the Atlas Film Studios, a must-see for any movie buff. We wander through the areas where famous films were shot, such as “Gladiator” or “Game of Thrones”! In the afternoon, we’ll explore Kasbah Telouet, a 17th-century fortress that served as a residence for the Glaoui dynasty.

As the day draws to a close, we return to our hotel in Marrakech, reflecting on the diverse experiences we’ve had in Ouarzazate. We might choose to enjoy a delicious dinner at a local restaurant, savoring the flavors of Moroccan cuisine, or simply relax in our riad.
