Let the Two Weeks in Morocco Begin!
Upon arrival in Casablanca, we will delve into the architectural marvel of the Hassan II Mosque. This stunning structure, designed by French architect Michel Pinseau, boasts the world’s tallest minaret at 210 meters. Offering a glass floor with a view of the Atlantic, it accommodates 25 thousand worshippers!
Our journey continues to Rabat, a short 1 1/2-hour drive away, where we’ll spend the night.
Chefchaouen
Today we go on a guided tour of Chefchaouen. The 18th-century kasbah museum beckons exploration, housing antique weapons, musical instruments, and glimpses of the town’s history.
After that, Plaza Uta el-Hammam, with its Grand Mosque and 15th-century architecture, awaits our visit. We will indulge in local specialties for lunch, and in the afternoon, take a guided hike in the nearby hills. We will spend the night in the city.
Chefchaouen and Departure to Fes
All About Fes
Today we go on a captivating Fes historical tour. Fes is a city adorned with the prestigious title of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Our exploration commences at the impressive 14th-century Palace Gates, an architectural marvel that transports us back in time.
Our next destination is the Jewish Mellah and the Ibn Danan Synagogue, adding layers to our exploration. These sites offer a glimpse into the coexistence of Islamic and Jewish cultures, revealing the city’s multicultural past. The Ibn Danan Synagogue, with its storied history, stands as a testament to the rich Jewish heritage that once flourished within the walls of Fes.
Wandering through the labyrinthine alleys, we will immerse ourselves in the vibrant atmosphere of Fes’ souks. These bustling markets showcase a kaleidoscope of colors, fragrances, and craftsmanship, providing a sensory feast for visitors. Our journey continues to the Tannery, where the age-old tradition of leather production unfolds before our eyes.
A visit to the Weavers Cooperative introduces us to the intricate artistry of the locals, weaving tales through the threads of their craft. Here, we can witness the creation of exquisite textiles.
The landmarks of the University of Kairaouine and Bou Inania Medersa stand as educational and spiritual pillars, offering insights into the city’s intellectual and religious heritage.
As the day unfolds with these enriching explorations, we retreat to the comfort of our hotel in Fes.
More Fes
On day 5, we will go on a Fes food tour, savoring traditional Moroccan street food in its historic medina.
In the afternoon we will explore the majestic palaces and Andalusian Gardens, including the Dar el-Batha Museum and Palais Mokri. We will stroll through the enchanting Jnan S’bil Garden and Les Jardins De Biehn. After that, we spend the night in Fes.
Journey to Merzouga
Today we start a captivating journey through the Middle Atlas to the Sahara Desert, discovering the enchanting landscapes that unfold along the way. Our route includes a pause in Ifrane, often called “Little Switzerland,” where we’ll visit a cedar tree forest and encounter local Barbary monkeys. The journey continues with a glimpse of the American-Moroccan University, a testament to cultural exchange.
As we approach the Sahara Desert, we’ll immerse ourselves in Erfoud, acclaimed as the “Capital of Fossils.” Delving into the rich geological history, we’ll explore this unique region. Our adventure takes a cultural turn as we venture to a remote area to witness the mesmerizing performance of the musicians of Khamlia in Merzouga.
Arriving in Merzouga before sunset, we’ll set the stage for a memorable evening. A sunset camel trek into the Erg Chebbi Dunes awaits, allowing us to witness the desert landscape transform under the warm hues of twilight.
After the jam-packed day we’ll go to our desert camp nestled in between the dunes.
Visiting a Berber Village
On day 7 of our two weeks in Morocco, we journey onwards to Rissani. Time seems to melt away as we lose ourselves in the bustling atmosphere of one of Morocco’s oldest souks.
Our adventure continues with a scenic drive through the Saghro Mountains. The majestic peaks of Alnif and the Saghro region unfold before us, a tapestry of rugged beauty etched against the vast canvas of the sky.
Our next destination: Ait Ouzzine, a peaceful Berber village. Here, we’ll delve into the heart of Berber culture, savoring a delicious couscous meal, a staple that nourishes both body and soul. Stepping through verdant fields, we’ll witness the traditional way of life, where gardens flourish, livestock graze, and henna cultivation adds a vibrant touch to the landscape.
As the sun dips below the horizon, we go on a drive to Skoura, witnessing the breathtaking sunset before reaching our charming riad. As we settle in for the night, memories of the day linger, a vibrant tapestry woven with desert wonders and Berber warmth.
All About Skoura
On day 8 of our Morocco private tour, Skoura awakens, revealing its stunning palm groves, majestic Atlas Mountain backdrop, and vibrant rose cultivation. We’ll step back in time at one of the historic kasbahs with their walls whispering tales of a rich past.
Next we journey towards the famed Valley of Roses. We’ll get the chance to witness the places that transform delicate blooms into Morocco’s renowned rose water- the Capp et Florale factories.
But today’s adventure holds more than just sights and scents. We’ll venture deep into the region of Mount Mgoun and the Valley of Nomads, seeking to connect with a culture deeply rooted in the land. Sharing a meal with a Nomad family offers a glimpse into their unique way of life, their traditions enriching our understanding of this captivating region.
The afternoon sees us drawn to the grandeur of the Dades Gorge. The dramatic limestone cliffs rise like sentinels, casting long shadows as we wind our way through this natural wonder.
As the sun begins its descent, we arrive in Boumalne Dades, the largest town in the valley. The unique atmosphere washes over us, a harmonious blend of local life and ancient history. Finally, we’ll settle into our cozy riad in Skoura, ready to dream of what tomorrow’s discoveries may hold.
Aït Benhaddou and Kasbah Telouet
Today we will visit the ancient Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou before heading to Kasbah Telouet and traverse the Tizi-N-Tichka Pass, exploring an argan cooperative en route to Marrakech.
We will spend the night at a hotel / riad in Marrakech.
A Tour of Marrakech
On day 10 of our 2 weeks Morocco tour, we will embark on a captivating historical journey through the heart of Marrakech, as we delve into the city’s rich history of cultural and architectural wonders. Our guided tour will commence with a visit to the iconic Yves Saint Laurent Gardens, a lush oasis paying homage to the renowned French fashion designer.
The journey continues as we set our sights on the majestic Koutoubia Mosque, the largest in Marrakech, where we’ll witness the grandeur of Islamic architecture and soak in the spiritual atmosphere of this sacred site. We’ll then venture into the Jewish Mellah, a district founded in 1558, offering a glimpse into the historical Jewish presence in Marrakech.
We will explore the Ben Youssef Madrasa, the largest Islamic college in Morocco, renowned for its intricate geometric designs and serene courtyards. Delight in the opulence of the El Bahia Palace, an exquisite example of 19th-century Eastern Architecture, reflecting the lifestyle of Marrakech’s aristocracy.
As the day unfolds, we will immerse ourselves in the vibrant atmosphere of Djemaa El Fna Square, a bustling epicenter of Moroccan life. Witness storytellers, musicians, and traditional performers captivating the crowds against the backdrop of the setting sun. Cooking Classes and More in Marrakech
Immerse yourself in the culinary treasures of Morocco as today we participate in a delightful morning cooking class led by a skilled Dada Chef.
As the fragrant scents of our creations linger, the afternoon beckons with possibilities. Whether opting for leisurely moments of relaxation or choosing to explore the Mamounia Hotel and Gardens, we will have the freedom to do what we please.
As the sun begins its descent, the evening unfolds with an exhilarating adventure at Djemaa El Fna Square. This UNESCO-recognized city square transforms into a vibrant spectacle, pulsating with the energy of storytellers, musicians, and exotic performances. Djemaa El Fna is a place full of Moroccan fantasies, and we will be able to take part in them!
After the fun is over, we will make our way to our hotel.
Road to Essaouira
Today we go on a 3-hour drive to the coastal town of Essaouira. En route, we will enjoy a winery visit in Ounara, a local culinary experience, and wine tasting.
We will spend the evening relaxing in Essaouira.
What Essaouira Offers
On day 13 of our two weeks in Morocco, we will discover Essaouira’s medieval charm through a guided tour of the ramparts, medina, and Jewish Mellah.
We will also visit local markets, the fish market, and get to see Thuya wood workshops- wood native to Essaouira. There will also be an optional exploration of Jewish Heritage Sites. The afternoon will be intended for relaxing.
Morocco Departure
Concluding our two weeks in Morocco trip, we will have breakfast at the hotel before departing for Marrakech, and then for Casablanca’s airport. Safe travels!
